8th Grade English Worksheet: Perspective Consistency

One of the most common mistakes in my students' writing is perspective inconsistency. They may start off writing to the general “you”, then switch to “we”, then switch to “one”. This resource gives students lots of practice with keeping their perspective consistent.

8th Grade English Worksheet: Perspective Consistency

This two-page worksheet offers students an essay exhibiting inconsistent perspectives through frequently shifted pronouns before tasking them to pick a specific perspective and maintain that perspective by modifying nouns, pronouns, and verbs as needed within the essay.

Perspective inconsistency is one of the most common grammatical mistakes made in writing, especially in persuasive essays; this worksheet aims to make this mistake less common. This two-page worksheet directly focuses on perspective and pronoun consistency, requiring learners to select a single perspective and maintain this perspective throughout the modification of an example essay. Once students have made modifications in writing, choosing a second perspective and changing nouns, pronouns, and verbs while reading the essay out loud is an effective way to provide more practice.
