Grammar Worksheet Parallelism by Speech Language Pathologist Lisa Flowers

Parallelism

High school students commonly make grammar mistakes in their writing involving parallelism; this worksheet strives to curb these mistakes.

The level of writing high school teachers and college professors expect from their students requires competence, sophistication, and proper syntax, as well as parallel structure. As such, students must master writing with parallelism when listing or contrasting elements of their content. This two-page worksheet focuses on this skill by explaining parallelism (for contrasts and lists alike), providing examples, and then tasking students with modifying grammatical structures in provided sentences to achieve parallelism. So as to prepare learners for higher-level grammar expectations found in standardized testing and college-level English courses, sentences used are paraphrased directly from actual SAT practice exams.
